The Leaning Tower of Bombon is Camarines Sur's own version of the very famous Leaning Tower of Pisa in Rome.

The Ladrillo Church of Quipayo, constructed in 1616, is one of the earliest stone churches in the Philippines. Rare artifacts excavated in this church are now displayed in a museum behind the church altar.

Our Lady of the Holy Rosary on top of Mount Caglago 
Atop one of the tallest mountains in Caramoan, Mt. Caglago, is a gigantic statue of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary frequently visited by pilgrims. Aside from its religious association, Mt. Caglago offers a breathtaking view of the different islands and islets of Caramoan.

Lake Buhi is the home of what the locals call tabios or sinarapan, mistichis luzonensis, the world's smallest (1/5 inch) commercial fish.

Mt. Asog or Mt. Iriga is one of the province's extinct volcanoes. Its 1611 eruption caused the existence of Lake Buhi.

Mt. Isarog is the province's other extinct volcano. Home to many unique species of wildlife, it is not just an ideal place for mountain climbers.

Magragobdob Falls is where magma used to flow from the heart of Mt. Isarog. Located at the crater, it is said to be most alluring despite its relatively diminutive size.

Tayak Lagoon - Majestically enclosed by rocky and forested mountains, Tayak Lagoon creates an enigmatic impression because of its deep and still water.

Gota Beach - Though the most frequently visited beach in Caramoan because of its accessibility, Gota Beach hasn't lost its magnificence to many sightseers and adventurers. The imposing stretch of mountainous rock formations half-enclosing the beach adds beauty to its fine sand and clear water.

Bag-ing Island is a relatively small island blessed with an enormous garden of coral reefs inhabited by different species of sea creatures.

Bichara Island - To the natives of Caramoan, this privately owned beach of the Bichara's of Naga City is better known as Paradise Island. Indeed, it is a paradise of powder-like sand amidst a crystal clear body of water.

Peñafrancia Festival - Both in the Traslacion, which transfers the image to the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Fluvial Procession, which then brings the image to the Basilica, men clamor for the privilege of helping bear the weight of her andas (a carriage) as women pray novenas and rosarios in a seemingly endless cavalcade of the faithful. The onslaught of heat on bare feet from the melting asphalt roads and of the odor and crush of hundreds of bodies are ignored. The downpour of rain is considered a blessing.

The people of the City of Iriga hold the Tinagba Festival every 11th of February to celebrate the feast of their patron saint. During the festival, all barangays are said to present their harvest offering to Our Lady of Lourdes, in the form of colorful floats drawn by carabaos.

The Boa-Boahan Festival is held every 2nd of May to coincide with the town fiesta of Nabua. Highlighting the affair is the re-enactment of a 13th century pagan rite whereby the natives offer to their deities chains of coconut embryo called "boa."

The Feast of Our Lady of Buenviaje is celebrated by the town of Sabang every last Saturday of May. The focal point of the festivities is a fluvial procession which starts from the shore of Sabang and ends at the parish church.

Location

Bounded on the north by its siste province Camarines Norte and San Miguel Bay, by the province of Albay and Ragay Gulf on the south by Lagonoy Gulf on the east and by Quezon and Ragay Bay on the west.

 

 

Climate

The driest months are February, March, and April. Heavy rains pour from June to October, and majority of the typhoons come by between the months of September and November.

 

Language / Dialect

Owing to its topography, the Bikol language as spoken in Camarines Sur may be divided into four dialects: that which is spoken in Naga and its surrounding towns; that which is spoken in the Partido area, which includes the towns of Ocampo, Goa, Tigaon, Lagonoy, Sagnay and San Jose; that which is spoken in the Rinconada area, which includes the towns of Nabua, Baao, Bula, Balutan, Bato, and Iriga; and the unique vernacular of the people of Buhi.

 

Major Industries

Agriculture is the leading industry in Camarines Sur with rice and coconut as the primary agricultural crops. Mining, fishing, and cottage industries bring up the rear.
